Amazing sharpness as always. I have never seen their tiny antennae in so much detail. Quite enlightening. I didn't know they were hairy.

~very awesome photo! ;)

be patient, advance slowly and watch your shadow ;)
:icongraemo:
"as always"? haha :p
although i think this one isn't too bad
still experimenting with the settings

Come on, I wasn't joking. The sharpness of your pics is way beyond the DA average (not a hard thing to achieve, admitted). And if they aren't so sharp, it's usually because of technical restrictions rather than because of photographer's incapability (such as forgetting to use macro setting on the point and shoot cam, using a shutter speed that is way too slow etc.), which is the case for so many pics I've seen here.
:icongraemo:
not only technical restrictions
the right balance between DOF and diffraction blur is something i'm still experimenting with
it even seems to depend on the subject (finer or coarser detail patterns) to some extent

for DA standards they are ok, but when you browse photo.net, and look at people like mark plonsky [link] or krister hall [link] for example, there's still way to go for me
:iconboron:
The quality of your macro is amazing. What do you use as a diffuser?

There's always someone better...there has to be, otherwise there'd be nothing new to learn, no need for improvement. Plonsky's macros in particular are stunning, Hall's too, but not quite so much, compared to Plonsky's.

Hm, that's interesting, the fact that the balance depends partially on the patterns on the subject...

a piece of paper ;)
since i can't control the output on the flash, i have to weaken it somehow
for fine tuning (to get the exposure right) i use a flap of black paper, to partly cover the white paper ;)
and of course, the distance is very important
it's a crude method, but it does the job
